The Reverend Daniel Schaefer, was ordained a Minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1988. He previously served congregations in Oregon and Ohio before coming to Jerusalem Lutheran in 2006 .
Pastor Dan was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and is the oldest of seven brothers and sisters. A lifelong baseball fan, he was the batboy for the Cleveland Indians Baseball Team while in high school. After completing college, Pastor Dan worked for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper, working in advertising & circulation. He also worked in the towing and trucking business.
Pastor Dan and his family have served as a missionaries in France and Madagascar, Africa. His pastoral and professional background includes Hospice Chaplaincy, International Mission Work, Homeless Shelter, Critical Incident Debriefings, and serving on a Board of a Domestic Violence Program.
Pastor Dan has Bachelor’s degrees in ministry and the social & behavioral sciences. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Pastoral Counseling. In addition, Pastor Dan is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has experience treating people with depression, anxiety, marriage and family issues, spiritual issues, stress management, and other concerns.
In Pastor Dan, you will find a very caring and helpful minister. He is down to earth, friendly and youth-focused, which fits in with the mission of our congregation at Jerusalem Lutheran very well. He is considered by our congregation to be very approachable and accessible, while being committed to helping people in their spiritual journey in life, using solid Biblical principles, Christian compassion and human understanding.
Pastor Dan has been married to his wife Holly for 38 years. They have a son Dan Jr., who, along with his wife Jill and three children, are members of Jerusalem Lutheran. Pastor Dan enjoys horseback riding, golf, fishing, baseball and spending time with family.
